Did you know that the Australian Standards for Carpet
cleaning recommend thorough vacuum twice a week, spot
and stain removal weekly and professional cleaning up
to twice a year in areas of light domestic traffic?
Did
you know that approximatley 50% of the soils in a
carpet are dry soild that can be removed with regular
vacuuming? If these dry-soils are
not removed they will act like sand-paper and wear
at the carpet every time you take a step. Regular
vacuuming will not only improve the appearance of
your carpet but help it last much longer. Vacuuming
should be done with a vacuum with a rotating beater
brush (best option) or stiff brostle near the head
of the vacuum to dislodge dry soils from the carpet
fibre.
Had A Big Spill?
A few tips to
remember next time you knock over a cup of coffee or
glass of … just about anything!
Make sure you remove as much of the stain as possible
without spreading it. Do this by placing a thick absorbent
towell (I recommend an old beach towell) on the affected
area and place downward pressure. You may need to do
this several time with different parts of the towell.
When as much excess moisture as possible has been removed
then sponge the stained area of the carpet with a mixture
of 2 litres of warm water and half a teaspoon of dishwashing
detergent. Again remove excess moisture by pressing down
with a towell. If a stain remains then treat the stain
with Electro 3 Spot and Stain Remover that can be purchased
from your local Electrodry technician.
Before tackling a stain, apply a small amount of cleaning
solution to a white cloth (never use a coloured cloth
as the cleaning solution may cause the colour to run
creating a whole new problem). Dab white cloth with cleaning
solution onto an inconspicuous area of the carpet or
fabric and check for colour transfer. If there is colour
transfer then try again with a different cleaning solution.
Stain removal Hints
Remove the excess, if the spill is
a fresh spill then place a 1 centimeter thick layer of
paper towel onto the stain and apply firm even pressure
for 20 seconds. Re-apply fresh paper towel on a regular
basis until the spill is no longer being absorbed onto
the paper towel. If the spill is more solid (like a thick
sauce) or has dried, then scrape as much of the spill
as possible from the carpet using a butter knife.
Spray the cleaning solution*
onto the stain or apply directly to the cloth and dab
onto the outside edge of the stain working towards the
center of the stain. Do not harshly rub the stain as
this will cause irreversible damage to the carpet fiber.
Re-apply the cleaning solution as required until there
is no-longer any transfer of the stain to the cloth.
After a spot has been completely removed,
rinse the affected area thoroughly with cold water and
blot dry until all of the cleaning solution has been
removed. Some cleaning solutions may cause re-soiling
or bleaching if not completely removed. To dry rapidly,
apply a 1centiemter layer of white paper toweling to
the affected area and apply firm even pressure for 20
second Continue to change paper towels as needed.
We recommend the use of E3 Spot and Stain remover as
supplied by your local Electrodry technician.
