How to Naturally Clean Your Kitchen in Just 10 Minutes

Published on March 18th, 2019

Yes, you read that correctly – in just 10 minutes you can get your kitchen sparkling and naturally clean. In between work, kids, and the other household chores that need my attention, the kitchen sometimes gets ignored. As the place where I prep my food though, it should be the cleanest room in the house!

I’ve discovered a great way to clean the kitchen naturally, using tricks I’ve learnt during my journey to domestic greatness. Minimising housework time and using all-natural products sounds like a winning combination to me! I’ve made a challenge out of it, and got it done with not a second to spare.

How will you go?

What You Need

Cloths

Vinegar

Lemon, cut into half

Salt

Coconut Oil

Glass spray bottle (in it, measure out an equal parts vinegar and water solution with a few drops of essential oil, to save yourself some time).

Microwave Safe Bowl

Dishwasher Safe Cup

Large plastic bowl, with equal parts vinegar and water mix.

How to Clean Your Kitchen Efficiently

In preparation, you’ll need to get any glassware out of your cupboards that have hard water stains on them, as well as dirty chopping boards. Turn your phone on silent to avoid distractions. Start the Clock.

0:00 You can sanitise grimy sponges by soaking them in water and then popping them in the microwave for 2 minutes. Give it a few minutes before taking them out – they’ll be hot!

0:30 Fill your kettle to the top with an equal parts vinegar and water mix and flick it on. I added a bit of lemon to mine because it offsets the smell of vinegar and has cleaning properties as well.

1:30 Sprinkle salt on one of the lemon halves and scrub the chopping boards. You’ll need to scrub hard if you’ve got really grubby boards like mine. Rinse down.

3:00 Put your dirty glassware into the plastic bowl with the vinegar and water mix. Leave it for five minutes or so.

5:00 Take sponges out of the microwave and replace with a bowl of water with half a lemon. Set the microwave timer for another two minutes.

6:00 Empty the kettle, refill and boil again. This will help to rinse the vinegar out.

7:00 Fill a cup with vinegar, place it in an empty dishwasher on the top rack and run a hot cycle.

8:30 Take your water/lemon bowl out of the microwave and make sure you use either an oven mitt or old tea towel.

9:00 Use your pre-made vinegar spray to spray your surfaces and wipe them down clean.

10:00 Step back and admire your clean kitchen!

Note: You will need to put your freshened-up glassware into the dishwasher for the rinse cycle and there’s a touch of cleaning up to do but that’s it – you’re done! You’ve sanitised sponges, cleaned some regularly-used appliances, shined up glassware, restored chopping boards and cleaned your dirty dishwasher as well. Very productive 10 minutes!

Why are natural cleaners great for the kitchen?

You don’t need to use expensive and potentially harsh chemicals to clean your kitchen. Natural products will do the job just as well, if not better in some cases.

My favourite natural products for the kitchen are white vinegar and lemon, which most people already have in their cupboard and fridge. They contain antibacterial properties, which target pesky germs and are also fantastic at neutralising odours that the kitchen is renowned for!
